Pathway to COVIDSafe

Winter is well and truly here, along with the change in seasons we are now experiencing a change in COVID-19 directives. You will likely be aware that states and territories are taking a cautious approach in slowly easing restrictions, a lead we intend to follow.

We are as eager and enthusiastic as everyone to get back to normality, or as close to normality as can be, but health remains our first priority and we do not want to be in a position where we would need to backtrack.

COVIDSafe Principles

To ensure we can continue to protect the wellbeing of the people we support, their families and all in our broader communities, we have developed our ‘Pathway to COVIDSafe: A three-step journey to rebuild’. Guiding this pathway is a set of principles that we would like to share with you.

Resumption of Suspended Services

Before restrictions, many of the people we support chose to spend all or some of their weekdays in centre-based services. We understand the importance of these services and are working with each individual to understand how they would like to progress. Our Oakdale Training facility officially began welcoming a small number of people back from today, as we embark on a three-staged return.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach, we must be mindful of every unique situation and continue to be comply with state and federal health advice. This means the path going forward is varied with no quick and easy answer.

Our Gratitude

It has taken a collective effort to land us where we are today, with no positive COVID-19 cases. Many in our community have played a part to keep everyone safe; the people we serve and their families who have patiently followed health authority directives, our fellow Alliance20 members and other sector colleagues who have collaborated for the best outcomes and Possability’s own exceptional teams, who have risen to the challenge in all areas of the organisation.

Lessons from Lockdown

Innovation is thriving across the board and it’s something we are passionate about supporting. In the midst of the restrictions you may have seen our story about backyard camping and a home disco, these are just the tip of the iceberg as we are hearing more tall tales of creativity—we’ll be sharing these soon.

We have also developed our own online activities to keep minds and bodies engaged while safe at home, with WeCreate. This program is attracting lots of interest and much of the program is hosted by people we support, sharing what’s important to them.

Kind regards,

Drew Beswick,

Possability CEO
