The Spirit of Camping

The real value of camping isn’t the journey, it’s the adventure you go on together. Which is exactly what Jamie experienced last month over the Easter long weekend.

Going away camping had been banned in much of the country, but rather than give up on the campsite dream, Jamie and housemates Matthew, Ken and Bernie spent an evening nurturing their inner adventurers by setting up a campsite in their idyllic backyard—which is often frequented by echidnas, possums and kangaroos.

Jamie and Possability support professional Jack got into the spirit of backyard camping by setting up the fire and dragging logs into place for makeshift seating. They all cooked spuds together, toasted marshmallows into a gooey mess and sung along to their favourite tunes.

“It was fun,” Jamie said, and once the weather warms up he is keen to do it again.

Marianne, the House Supervisor, explained the backyard campsite was something exciting to look forward to together. “We thought we’d bring the fun to the backyard” she said, “we all loved it.”
