Maggie’s making her mark

The state of the roads and footpaths around Maggie's home were making it difficult for her to access the community. She seized the opportunity to bring up the issue at her local council meeting.

Maggie, a person we support in Glenorchy, Tasmania has always been interested in laws and rules – and is a keen follower of politics and the news. So, when she was offered the chance to speak at a recent local council meeting, she seized the opportunity to raise some important issues.

Maggie had a few items on her agenda, but top of her list was to bring attention to the state of the roads and footpaths around her home that were making it difficult for her to access the community.

“Parts of the road and footpaths are cracked and broken. Some sections are overgrown with weeds. These tripping hazards make it very difficult to pass by in a wheelchair,” Maggie told us.

Maggie says that the mayor was very kind and listened carefully to the issues she raised. Soon afterwards Greg and Matt from the Council visited her at home. They accompanied her on a trip to the local shopping centre to observe the condition of the roads and footpaths first-hand. During the visit, they took some photos and informed Maggie about how they plan to fix some of the issues she raised in their upcoming roadworks.

Good on you Maggie for speaking up and making a meaningful impact in your local community.
