Supporting human rights and dignity
“I have ADHD myself, and so through that I’ve always been passionate about equity and inclusivity. That’s what gravitated me towards working within the disability sector.”
Sanket is the Senior Behaviour Support Practitioner at Possability, with his background in clinical research and neuropsychology leading him to this role.
“I have ADHD myself, and so through that I’ve always been passionate about equity and inclusivity. That’s what gravitated me towards working within the disability sector,” he said.
At Possability, Behaviour Support is all about upholding the human rights, and the dignity, of clients. This is achieved through creating long term plans, and helping people with disability to build the skills they need, as opposed to restrictive practices.
“It’s about teaching skills and adapting the individual’s environment to improve quality of life. We are interested in understanding the person holistically, including their strengths and preferences. It’s looking beyond disability or diagnosis, and ensuring we are advocating for human rights and promoting individual choice and control. Overtime, through improved quality of life we can also reduce behaviours of concern.”
When asked about a typical day working at Possability, Sanket noted that it sounds super clichéd, but every day is completely different – unique from the day prior and the day ahead. Amongst the Practice team, there is an array of experience and expertise, allowing for collaboration to ensure the best outcomes. The one constant in the team is the “clear passion towards supporting people.”
Possability distinguishes itself from other providers through the time they take to tailor and personalise each experience.
“Here, there is a lot of time to ‘stop and focus’, ensuring our approach is considered and we’re providing the best support possible. That’s really clear in terms of the Practice team and how we support clients,” Sanket says. The team is diverse and incredibly experienced, and we have direct access to industry-leading research, allowing for up-to-date evidence-based practice.”
Sanket emphasised the tangible and cultural difference at Possability, where you can enjoy your work, provide the best support, whilst also being supported by your peers.
“It’s really good when you go back to the homes, people remember you, there’s a smile on their face. As well as other feedback from staff saying, ‘The plan really worked.”
