Possability introduced Excellence Awards this year to recognise and reward employees that demonstrate excellence in practice and delivery of support to the highest possible standards. The 2015 Excellence Awards were announced at Possability’s Annual General Meeting on 3 November.
Marita was awarded for her ongoing commitment to the development of clients and their support staff. Her approach reflects a genuine commitment to the human rights and the needs of those around her. She routinely manages complex tasks, oversees two respite centres and four accommodation sites mentoring the team leaders and advanced support workers at these sites.
The recent establishment of a group home in the North West, funded by the NDIS, is one example of Marita’s abilities to meet the needs and aspirations of clients and their families. She liaised with all families to ensure the smoothest transition; the clients were all young men leaving home for the first time. The families were nervous and worried about their child leaving home. She organised and informed staff about the strategies in place to best support the clients and expectations in keeping with Possability’s values and Practice Framework. Since the young men moved into their new home earlier this year, there has been resoundingly positive feedback about their progress from families, other service providers and the young men themselves.
Marita generously shares her knowledge with colleagues and is known as the ‘go to’ person when a pragmatic yet efficient solution is required to meet a client’s needs. Her humanity and accountability drive her to perform to an exceptionally high level and this is recognised by her peers, state-wide.
In addition to Marita’s state-side award, three employees were named 2015 Regional Disability Support Practitioner of the Year:
South – Angela Reeve, Residential Team Leader
North – Brandon Ashdown, Support Worker
North-West – Steven Clarke, Support Worker
Excellence in Practice awards were presented to Levi Johnson, Jeanneane Matthews, Jodie Wilton and a Team working in Out of Home Care in the North West.
Special Merit awards were presented to the three regional Dance Committee volunteers who put in their time and effort to present a great evening of entertainment earlier in the year.
Congratulations to all our award winners!
